Guidelines for a Safe Community Space

Please take a moment to review the proposed guiding principles.

The goal is to abide by and uphold these principles as we grow as a brave support group

We support each other by observing to the following principles:

  1. Being queer is but one of the intersections that defines the amount of privilege and discrimination we’ll experience in our journeys.  Race and ethnicity may also weigh heavily on a person’s experience including making them more likely to experience poverty and violence.  It’s vital that we learn to recognize and amplify the voices of those more marginalized than ourselves.  If we amplify their voices, all our voices will be heard.
  2. We affirm the intrinsic beauty in ourselves, each other, and those in and around our community even when we disagree with each other.  Using a person’s correct pronouns is one of ways in which we affirm each other.  If you’re unsure of a person’s pronouns, ask.
  3. Our struggles are similar, but also individual in nature. Our individual struggles need not be quantified or compared to those experienced by others, only shared.
  4. We are most helpful to others when we share of ourselves and our own journey including its triumphs and difficulties as it relates to being a member of the queer community or a vocal ally; thus, we shy away from sharing of rumors, innuendo, or the experiences of others. Be sure to tell only your story.
  5. To ensure that all persons in our community feel at home in this group, you are asked to refrain from sharing relationship issues with other group members during our meetings.
  6. We hold information shared here in confidence, remembering that living our own truths must be done in each person’s time including the decision to live openly.
  7. Though we ourselves are politicized, these meetings are non-partisan and thus we limit our discussion of politics except in the cases where our own ability to live safely and openly is being directly impacted by politically motivated violence.
  8. Accomplices in direct support of a members are welcome!

Mental Health is a key component of a well rounded and healthy individual.

The goal of this group is to provide support and community based on best practice mental health.  Each of us has unique qualities and perspectives.

By putting our mental health first we can begin working on moving forward.  We can know we are not alone.  We can care and share love. This  voluntary attendance event  is intended to bring together members of the Queer Community as well as the groups within our Community to help each other.

Let us join together each month to take care of our mental health.  People and professionals from The Community will gather to talk about, process, support, and work toward healing as we exist through all that is happening.  We are 100% accessible and welcoming.
